Clothing Swap for a New Season
As the seasons change, it is time to swap the shorts for pants and dig out the coats. Or better yet, bring out the cold weather clothes, but keep the warm weather clothes and go back and forth every few days (thank you September in the northeast!)
Gearing up for the clothes swap? Here’s a step by step guide for getting kids’ clothes ready for Fall:
Weed through what fits, eject hand me downs
If you can get your kid to try things on, go for it! If not, use an item that you know fits and hold it up to other items so that you can see what may have been outgrown over the summer
For anything that no longer fits, move it along on its journey:
To storage for a sibling (also consider lending to a friend who will gently use it and then get it back- saves storage space!)
Hand me downs for a friend

2. Clean and store away anything from the summer that might be worn next year
If your child is attached to anything item that is no longer appropriate to wear, store it where they will not see it- or be prepared for swimsuits under your snow pants :)
3. When it comes to a season of clothing for kids, consider a capsule wardrobe
Depending on the age of your child, having more options might make choices harder for getting dressed- sometimes less is more for helping a child get dressed quickly in the morning
4. Store clothes for the new season accessibly
If you want your small child to dress himself or herself, they need to be able to see and access their clothing easily
If appropriate, involve them in putting away the clothing so that they can decide where things go and see what they have
Be realistic with your folding- I always say this for kids! Fold in a way to can be replicated by a child- or better yet, if you don’t mind wrinkles, teach them to fold!
Happy Fall!
